Alex Jeffrey Pretti

Alex Jeffrey Pretti, who was 37 years old and worked as an intensive care unit (ICU) nurse at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System, was a U.S. citizen. U.S. Border Patrol agents shot him and killed him in Minneapolis on January 24, 2026, while he was filming an immigration enforcement operation.

Pretti was a lawful gun owner with no criminal record. Colleagues called him a "kindhearted soul" and a "gentle" professional. His death sparked national outrage after a video appeared to show him holding only a phone and trying to protect a woman from agents just before he was tackled and shot.
