Seattle Seahawks - Football team
The Seattle Seahawks are a big part of sports in the Pacific Northwest. They are known for their historically great defenses and their loud home-field advantage. The franchise has been in the NFL since 1976 as an expansion team. They are the only team to have played in both the AFC and NFC Championship Games. They had their best success after moving to the NFC West in 2002. With coach Pete Carroll and the "Legion of Boom" defense in charge, the team won its first title in Super Bowl XLVIII by beating the Denver Broncos 43–8. The "12s," formerly known as the 12th Man, became a legend during this time. Their cheering at Lumen Field has set Guinness World Records for crowd noise twice, and they famously caused a "Beast Quake" during Marshawn Lynch's 2011 playoff run, which was a real earthquake.
The Seahawks are currently having a strong comeback thanks to second-year head coach Mike Macdonald. In the 2025-26 regular season, the team set a franchise record with 14 wins, got the NFC's top seed, and wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba broke receiving records with a 1,793-yard performance. The team has moved on from the legendary Carroll era into a new "Golden Age." With stars like Sam Darnold and Devon Witherspoon on the roster, they are a top Super Bowl contender as they enter the 2026 playoffs and celebrate their 50th anniversary season.
