Anthony Joshua car crash

On December 29, 2025, Anthony Joshua, a former heavyweight champion, was in a terrible car accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Nigeria, close to the Sagamu interchange. Joshua was in a Lexus SUV that was part of a two-car convoy. He was visiting his ancestral homeland after knocking out Jake Paul ten days earlier. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) says that the car was going too fast when it lost control while trying to pass another vehicle and hit a truck that was parked on the side of the road. Joshua survived the crash with only minor injuries and was called "stable" after being taken to a hospital in Lagos. However, the crash killed two of his closest friends and mentors: his strength coach Sina Ghami and his personal trainer Abdul Lateef (Latz). Eyewitness video from the scene showed Joshua, who was dazed and not wearing a shirt, being helped out of the wreckage. Since then, Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has contacted the boxer to personally express his condolences for the loss of his team members.
