Renee Nicole Good
Renee Nicole Good was a 37-year-old poet, writer, and mother of three who won awards. She was shot and killed by an ICE agent in Minneapolis on January 7, 2026, and her death sparked a national conversation. Good was a U.S. citizen from Colorado who graduated from Old Dominion University with a degree in English. In 2020, she won the prestigious Academy of American Poets Prize for her poem "On Learning to Dissect Fetal Pigs." Her family called her a "devoted Christian" and "exceptionally compassionate" person who loved to sing and do "messy art." She had just moved to Minneapolis to start over after the death of her second husband in 2023. At the time of the incident, she was reportedly working as a substitute teacher and living with her partner. Her death, which federal officials first called an act of self-defense against a "domestic terrorist," but which eyewitnesses and video footage suggest happened as she was driving away, has led to widespread protests and calls for federal accountability.
