Ole Miss beats Georgia to get to the CFP semifinals.
The No. 6 Ole Miss Rebels shocked No. 3 Georgia 39-34 at the Sugar Bowl in a historic College Football Playoff quarterfinal. They came back from a nine-point halftime deficit. The Rebels' win puts them in the semifinals and makes up for their only loss of the season.
Highlights of the Game
Lucas Carneiro, the kicker, kicked a 47-yard field goal with just six seconds left to break a 34-34 tie. Carneiro was perfect that night, and earlier in the game he hit career-long field goals of 55 and 56 yards.
Chambliss the Catalyst: QB Trinidad Chambliss had an amazing game, going 30-of-46 for 362 yards and two touchdowns. His 40-yard pass to De'Zhaun Stribling in the last minute set up the game-winning kick.
Georgia coach Kirby Smart took a chance on 4th-and-2 from his own 33-yard line when his team was down by three in the fourth quarter. The Rebels' defense got a strip-sack, which led to a touchdown that put Ole Miss ahead for the first time in the half.
Lacy's Toughness: After a rare fumble led to a Georgia defensive touchdown, star RB Kewan Lacy came back with two rushing touchdowns in the second half, bringing his season total to a school-record 23.
What's Next
The Rebels (13-1) are now 2-0 since Lane Kiffin left and the interim leaders took over. Ole Miss will now play the No. 10 seed Miami Hurricanes in the Fiesta Bowl on January 8 for a chance to play in the National Championship.
